Create a Spiral path form a Vase surface

Hi all,

I’m trying to create a vase surface and then generate a continuous path in the form of a spiral so I can then us this information to drive the path of 3d printer nozzle.

I’ve managed to create the path for the sides of the vase but I cant workout how to create two layers of spirals to form the base, so I want the printer to move in circular or pattern motion from the outer edge into the center then move up a layer and print a second layer moving to the outer edge and then continue printing the sides. I’ve attached images and the file of that I’ve achieved so far, Help I’m very new to this.

I’m not exactly sure what you want, but this method might work:

Use all the curves to make a loft surface

Use the Twist component to twist it along a vertical axis. Because the cross section is a pentagon I’d suggest twisting in a multiple of 72 degrees.

Look at the Loft edges. There will be 3: top, bottom, and a twisted one the runs from the bottom to the top.

For the bottom select the bottom 2 curves and Loft those. Then Cap the result.

Ok well let me simplify the the request, how do I create a spiral curve from the hexagon curve that spirals into the center of the base of the Vase? I’ve made the loft of the vase and i know how to do the walls of the vase but I cant find a solution for the base, any help would move my uni project on :innocent:

Have you noticed there are many plugins for that purpose?

Joseph’s curtness aside, the forum could flip that for you. This is a wide ranging forum for professionals as well as first time learners, built for posing questions about the program.

What the forum is not is a homework hotline where people are just going to hand you answers whenever you hit a bump in your learning.

To elaborate on what Joseph is saying by giving you a link to a page with hundreds of search results is that this topic of 3d printing+Grasshopper is very commonly brought up. If there isn’t a question on the forum that’s specifically yours, it means you’re either the first university student in the world to find this problem, or perhaps in the miles of forum posts - some folks have solved it and are asking questions related to issues further down the pipeline.

It doesn’t take long to download a few .gh files and take a look at how they’re composed. By downloading other peoples files and investigating them you’re going to probably find the answer you’re looking for and as an added bonus you might learn a thing or two about how to utilize grasshopper that might help in the future before you hit your next roadblock.

Something like that could work using NAutilus plugin

Split list to fill the first curves, then join them. For some reason the polyline is inverted.
