We are having reproducible crashes when setting per face colors on a polysurface. I see a fix for RH8 on youtrack, but we are still on RH7 for the time being. My question is :
Is there anything I can do (in Rhino or in C#) to mitigate this issue?
No point in pasting system info, suffice to say we run RH7 SR9! Hopefully we will be able to upgrade during 2025.
The current version of Rhino 7 is Service Release 38 or 39. You might want to update yours and see if the problem has been fixed. Also check the date of your video driver.
I know, we should update and upgrade rhino and video drivers and everything, but we just can’t. I was hoping for somthing like “Try Brep.Compact() on it” or “Try this setting on your display mode”… Ok then, we’ll work around it. Thanks.
I know from experience that this can be quite a problem. Just remember that it is your work that is creating the income to pay for those people in IT. There is no doubt that if they are doing their job it is a big help that you don’t need to keep track of all the system support details. But if they aren’t…
I have heard of many firms where the IT people are so over worked and understaffed that they can’t keep up. In other firms they are just plain lazy and/or unqualified so they take the path of not changing anything so they don’t mess it up.
IMHO keeping you on SR9 is downright irresponsible. I can’t say for sure that updating to 37 will correct your problem, but I certainly would be surprised if it didn’t. Seems to me you have a valid reason for holding their feet to the fire.
An SR update won’t change anything fundamental in your workflow although you may discover that several things work a lot better than you are used to.
I’ll get off my soapbox now; its just that your remark brought back a lot of repressed memories.
