Not actually an idea, but known from other software (e.g. Xara):
Right-click-drag to copy objects, instead or additional to the tap Alt method.
This should only happen if the mouse is not over a selected object.

Right click and dragging is currently used for panning, rotating and zooming.
I meant right click ON OBJECT, then drag.
