Copy/Cut from AutoCAD and Pasting Into Rhino for Mac

Ive recently switched to a Macbook Pro and it seems that I can no longer copy/paste between .dwg and .3dm files as I was doing previously on Windows. This makes the process of working between files really cumbersome having to use an export/import workflow. All the consultants I work with send me .dwg files and I need to frequently move information between the two programs.

I am on Rhino for Mac 8 (8.25.25328.11002, 2025-11-24) and AutoCAD for Mac 2024.

Is this something that has been discussed and is being addressed? Or is it a limitation of OS?

If somebody has a clever work around i would love to know it.

Thanks!

Hi @Seychellian,
Can we get a file that you typically want to paste into Rhino?
You can email it to tech@mcneel.com attn: mary
Please reference the Forum thread URL in the message.

I see the paste from AutoCAD Mac (I have 2026) is broken right now in Rhino 8 & the WIP.
It may have never worked on the Mac, but you are the first to report it.
If I can get a sample file, I will write it up and we can get it working.

Thanks for letting us know.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Fugier

Hi Mary,

Many thanks for your response. Its not a specific file but rather just a general problem. When I copy/cut and paste lines etc from AutoCAD i get a command line error (see attached).

I have attached an autocad file with some line work for you to take a look at but as i said its not specific to this file. Nothing will paste into Rhino.

If you need any additional info do let me know.

Rhino Copy Paste Error.dwg (429.9 KB)

Edit: Also I don’t know if thats worth mentioning but also the same applies in reverse. I am unable to copy/cut any objects from Rhino and paste them into AutoCAD. I don’t actually recall if thats something i could do previously on Windows. I recall at some stage they would post as a very pixelated image file but im not sure which direction that was.

Thank you, @Seychellian.
Getting a file really streamlines the logging of these issue.

We posted this last last year: Rhino WIP Feature: Clipboard Enhancements
As far as can tell, it was never tested with AutoCAD for Mac or Mac Rhino. So this is good. It was easy to reproduce here. As a result of this we logged:

RH-96267/Clipboard-Copy-Paste-Rhino-to-AutoCAD-Not-Working
RH-96266/Clipboard-Copy-Paste-AutoCAD-Rhino-Not-Working

We will let you know here when there is a fix to test.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Fugier

I’m looking forward
