Converting complex mesh into workable solid body

I am new hobbiest trying to figure out a efficient reverse engineering work flow to make custom version of OEM parts for my race car.

I have been scanning the reference part and the scan data outputs with a ridiculous amount of facets that I can’t easily convert into a solid body for modeling.

I was recommended Rhino8 to simplify that process of converting the scan data into something I can actually work with.

With that context in mind is Rhino8 capable of converting scan data with over 100k facets into a solid body, before I purchased a license I figured I’d just ask if Rhino8 was capable of doing that.

It will really depend on the shape of the part. Rhino can easily handle the mesh. You might be able to do something semi-automatic using QuadRemesh>SubD>Nurbs - or not. Otherwise you may need to so some manual modeling using the scanned mesh as a reference. Rhino is not dedicated reverse-engineering software with “automatic” conversions. If you want to post an image of the part to be re-modeled, someone might be able to make a better judgement call.

Download the 90-day evaluation version from the main Rhino site and try it out for free for 3 months… No risk!
