Contracts and billing

This is a perennial question that I deal with: Computational designers that have been in business for a while, what contract models do you use for billing your clients? I am referring to clients that will be using your script for many projects like a software rather than the one-off building projects. Lump sum, hourly, licensing, royalty, maintenance…a combination of the above? I am thinking of adding royalties to my contracts, I would like to see if some of you have done this successfully. Also who keeps the IP?

I think it s an important question - but hard to answer in this general way you are asking it.
I always wanted to set up a prepaid, “pay per use” setting for some powerful tools - but i never found a suitable licensing solution.
Most stuff I do is for long-time customers, i try to make them happy with powerful tools, so they ask me again if they have the next challenge.

but I think to answer your question - it really depends on the topic / your customers / the tools you offer - you re webpage is not linked in your profile…
