Container materials

Hello,
Is it possible to prevent new materials from always being inserted at the bottom? Can this be set to “top”? The display always jumps to the top material, but new materials are inserted at the bottom. This is very inconvenient for many materials. It would be wonderful if, when selecting an object, the system jumped directly to the relevant material.

Hi @Dietrich_Frank

There is currently no way to add new materials on top of the list.

About object selection and materials: In the Properties dialog material page it will select the material that is in use when selecting an object.

One question about the jumping. Can you send a video about the jumping problem?

Regards,
Max

I wanted to say that when inserting a new material, the view jumps to the top material, no matter where you were before, and that the new material is inserted at the bottom. You scroll constantly and always.

Can you post the information that is given by running the SystemInfo command on Rhino.

I tried the same Rhino version, but I keep having trouble to reproduce this. For me the thumbnails stay at the same location when adding a new material using the plus button. If possible it would be nice to see a video of the problem. It would make it easier to find a fix for the problem.

Does that help?

Thank you. I logged https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-85163/TreeView-in-content-editor-jumps-when-adding-a-new-material.

I will take a look and fix it.

Unfortunately, nothing has changed in this behavior with the updates so far. If you have a lot of materials, it is incomprehensible to me why new materials are always added at the bottom, but the directory always jumps to the top. I spend a lot of time with useless scrolling. It’s just annoying and I don’t see the point.

That is correct, the YT issue has not yet been fixed. We are trying to solve it.

The problem is only in the tree view, if one uses the list or grid view, then you do not need to scroll when adding new materials.

Oh, I hadn’t noticed that. Yes, that looks good. Thanks, then I can carry on like this until it’s fixed.

I fixed the bug. The fix will be in Rhino v8.16.
