Concept Motherboard

Bit of a distraction from the distraction!

Having a bit of fun rendering a concept motherboard, which is in typical form, a little from the future, but retains many elements, including many circuit parts, and a custom CPU frame.

This is Cycles with various Rhino materials applied, and a couple of self-made ones where needed. Not finished yet, but it’s just some fun while I took a break from the telescope. I’ve felt more encouraged since R8.5 to play with Cycles more, now it is sort of stable.

VERY COOL! Nice lighting, and great camera setup too.

Many thanks, Sky!

Started the CPU cooler. I do like a good air cooler, so I stuck with that for now. Silvered pipes and coldplate with wavy copper fin stack.

Seven heatpipes and copper fins? I’d totally buy that. Would perform better that my NH-U12A. Would probably also weigh way over 1kg.

Very nice renderings btw.

how did you manage to incorporate CA effects?

I wondered what you meant at first.

The Chromatic Aberration is from GIMP. There is a slight toning filter on there as well (physical camera response).

I think this should be only on the first image, as I thought the effect blurred out too many details by the second image.

These are the final shots for now, it’s been a fun break from a break.

I added a dismounted GPU in the background, and a pair of RAM sticks, which I think could be better. But they are clean enough for what I wanted.

The second shot I wanted a little more mood.

The post-effects in both shots are a slight Chromatic Aberation, a light/mild toning filter, and a film grain.

The first shot was about 1.5 minutes, and the second about 4.5 minutes; both rendered on an RTX 4070 Super at 80% maximum load.

It’s been fun using Cycles.
