Repaired the installation and it seems to have fixed everything as per this
It still took a much longer time to boot up for the first time. Only when I opened the content cache gh file, saved the recovery data and restarted grasshopper did it get back to its usual speed. The content cache script had 1000+ components so my only guess is that the recovery file was being called by grasshopper everything I started grasshopper itself even if don’t actually open the gh file which crashed last time.
