Command line considerations

I do not have access to the latest version 8 beta, as my macbook is too old for the required macos version, so it might be that this issues are addressed, but i doubt it:

The Command Line / Window can be the most important tool for an advanced workflow - I know people who use rhino daily, and basically work in fullscreen with the command line and layer window active.

I suggest to treat the command line, as it is in the windows version, as a first class citizen - like a viewport. Give it the possibility to change fonts (Monospaced!!) colors - foreground and background, maybe even color coding? And most importantly - the option to be on screen all the time.

Mac Rhino does not have a “command line” as Windows Rhino does. It has a “Command search box”. After that the command options show up in the left sidebar (by default), it’s been a long time since I was able to use the Mac version, so I don’t remember if they can be made floating or not.

That being said, the interface is being revamped for V8, so I have no idea what changes (if any) will be proposed in this regard.

bumping this thread - is there any news on the wip version 8? A quick google image search does not reveal any new UI development…
As rhino is one the main tools I use, this is a big factor for deciding between mac/win…

And related - is the scripting window of the GH C# node any better now? the version in Rhino 7 was very bare-bones…

Hi -

This work is still ongoing. For now, work has been done to make the “Default” workspace in Rhino 8 on macOS resemble the Rhino 7 layout as close as possible. A separate workspace that is closer to the appearance on Windows is under investigation.

The RhinoCode project will bring the same features to all code editors.
