Clearing clip board

Hi,

So I have two different rhino files open and I want to copy an object from one rhino file to the other.

I do CTRL C in file A and then CTRL P in file B. However the only thing that gets pasted in file B is the last group of objects that I copied from that same file B (the one that I am trying to paste into). Im sorry if that is confusing. I think the issue is that I need to somehow clear the clipboard, is there a way to do that?

Thank you,

Alex

Hi Alex- what you are doing should just work… (Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V) There is no way to clear the clipboard, the Ctrl-C from file A should simply replace what is held there. Do you see feedback in File A that copying has worked?

I see something similar to what you are describing if I switch files before the stuff from file A is written to the clipboard. If you are copy / pasting a bunch of stuff, be sure you see the cursor blinking again on File A’s command line before going to file B.

The cursor blinks but for some reason it still brings everything with it not just what I selected… weird.

I have even pasted the object in a new empty file which works fine but when I try bringing it to the file I need it in it still does the same thing. I even tried importing the objects and the same things happen.

hey guys i figured out what was going on. I am copying the objects from a layer called “layer 8” and I have a layer in the other file called “layer 8” so whats happening is I am copying the objects in and it is turning on all the “layer 8” objects as well… not copying them all in. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Alex- what do you mean by this? Did you Copy from file A, paste to a new empty file, save this file and then Import this file to file B?

Are there layer names shared by both A and B and if so are all these layers on in both?

Hey pascal I don’t know if you saw the post right before yours but I figured it out and you were right there were shared layer names.

Yep, ok, I see that- I’m glad it’s sorted out anyway.
