Is it possible to assign an object to a parent object mid-clip? I imagine not, it would require some editing or having 2 copies of the object (free and assigned to parent) and showing and hiding them, but…thought I’d ask.
Each parent can have a % control over a child. So both objects can control and object, but it is a ratio between on parent and the other. Then over time those ratios can change in the animation.
What kind of an animation are you trying to do? Could you give an example?
An object can only have one parent at a time, but depending on what you’re trying to do there are multiple ways to get around the issue. One good option is to use for example the Animation sets.
Hi Jim,
A parent/child relationship is valid throughout the entire animation and cannot be turned on or off along the way. The trick with 2 copies is in my opinion indeed the only way.
The problem with that is selecting an object that is hidden by it’s own keyframing. The trick I use in this regard is to give the objects their own layer and animate the visibility of the layer, instead of the visibility of object. The layers are always available in the layer panel.

Well we were doing where a bolt is installed in a parent object loosely, then the assembly is moved around, then the bolt is fully tightened. Swapping visibility on a second bolt seemed to work…
