I use the Logitech MX Revolution, the middle mouse wheel seems to jump the camera forward about twice as much as I want it to. Even when refocusing the camera I’m still having the same experience… any ideas?

Change the Zoom Scale factor.
If the default of 0.9 is zooming too far, try 0.95 or 0.97.
The closer is gets to 1.0 the less sensitive it gets.

Not that I am aware, but might Ctrl + right mouse button (target stays stationary) or Alt + right mouse button (target moves with camera) be a work around for your?
Yup. Sounds like he’s pushing his camera too close to the viewport target in the perspective projection.
Dolly Zoom to the rescue!
And you are correct, there isn’t a separate Zoo factor for different viewport projection types.
