Changes to Dim command

I just noticed in the Beta that the Dim command can continue dimensions from the last time you ran it. That’s cool…but the default behavior of that being turned on is super-extra-duper irritating. I didn’t realize the feature existed until I tried to investigate why I couldn’t get any dimensions to appear. Unless you’re in a very sort of intense dimension session there’s absolutely no way to not lose track of what state the command is in and not get frustrated at it. “Continuedimension” should probably be a separate command, or make you hit the continue option to carry on from the last one…which would probably work as well.

To add, so now to just stick one basic dimension on something I need to do an extra selection to pick “NewChain,” AND I have to do another enter after finishing the dimension to finish the command. Bad memories of an antique Pro/E version here.

And to add something else, having History turned on all the time while using dimensions means that trying to figure something out by drawing some lines and some dimensions and moving things around and deleting results in many, many History Break warning popups. If it’s going to “silently” enable history on dimensions, then it should “silently” let it break.

@JimCarruthers - Continue on dimensions is on or off by a mode switch in the command line: Continue=yes or Continue=no.
The starting condition is off, and if you set it on, it stays on until you turn it off, then it stays off until you turn it on. So if your command line says Continue=yes, type c to turn it off and leave it that way until you want it back on.
I hope you haven’t discovered some situation where that isn’t how it works, but if you have, I’ll fix it.

@JimCarruthers - We’ve had quite a bit of discussion about how dimension history works and made some adjustments to things that didn’t work right with history on all of the time.
There were or are differences of opinion about how things should work ranging from not having history on dimensions to automatically deleting dimensions when history breaks.

I don’t think we should let history break without a warning in general because it could be bad if somebody didn’t notice it and ended up with wrong dimension values.
For now, you can turn off history warnings if it bothers you that much. It may be possible to add an extra switch for turning warnings off just for dimensions, but again, I’m hesitant about that because of the danger of counting on it and having it off.
Anyway, I’m happy to listen to what everyone thinks and trying to find something that works.

Is there a way to turn off dimension history altogether?

Where is the option to turn off history warnings?
