Chamfer edge direction handle how to swing round?

Hi,
V5
help urgent must get this done as non manifold and need to have printed.
They are waiting on this.
anyone please. how the heck to make direction different., south not east as it were in this view !
and outwards between two surfaces, out into the clear air !
I have all those non manifolds to do.

@ anyone !

Chamfer edge places direction handle different to where I need it,
I can see no info on the net on how to aim it differently.

every chamfer tut is about an outside edge it seems. the handle immediately sticks outward.
here I am doing an inner facing set of surfaces.

how the heck do I get the handle to come out between them ?

In V5.

and the chamfer is taking ages to even go the wrong way, I have many to do.
is it best to select them all then run the command ?
SR4 calibration 45mm from rhino8 NO nonManifEdges.3dm (17.1 MB)

You can export it in its current state to STP, then import in PrusaSlicer. It will give 6 open edges. In PrusaSlicer you can then repair the STL and export it:

SR4 calibration 45mm.stl (2.7 MB)

I dont have prusa slicer and no time to learn it.
Just want to place a chamfer there, with handle coming out between the two surfaces.
I need to know how Rhino can place the handle where I need it to go. as does anyone trying to chamfer two inward facing faces.

or is that a Rhino failing ?

and V8 cannot do it either,

It’s free and open source software, there isn’t much to learn other than opening the stp and right clicking the triangular exclamation mark to repair, and export the stl.

If the surfaces are not part of the same edge (which seems to be the case if I looked correctly), you’ll have to use ChamferSrf instead. This will give you gaps most likely that you will have to fix by other means.

Rhino should manage this, not some other prog be needed,

Jeremy said use Chamfer, seemed so easy.

so explode it all, do chamfer srf then fill in the bits.
OMG.

Rhino surely should handle (pun !) this sort of thing better than this ?

what if I make a profile then extrude down the edge as rail, then union it ?

no doubt boolean union will fail.
its almost guaranteed.

chamfer would have bonded it to the big main surface, and not quibbled about co planar contact which an extrusion would have happen.

Steve

Personally I would have just made a small cylinder and copied it to all the non manifold vertical edges, then unioned those with the main object. That way everything’s connected and no more non manifold edges…

That thought did pass my mind, very quick.
Wish in some ways I had followed that idea when I also thought of it.

The route I took became more tricky as I went.
