Can't Open Rhino 7 File Created with Rhino 8 WIP

I’m having some ugly display issues with the latest WIP so I saved as a Rhino 7 file to get around it, but I’m getting an error when opening the file in Rhino 7: “The model named ___ was created by Rhino 8. This model cannot be read by Rhino 7.”

Is there a way to get around this?

Thank you.

  1. Open it in the V8 WIP.
  2. SaveAs, new name, and choose the Rhino V7 file format.
  3. Open the file you just made in V7.

Yep, that’s exactly what I did.

Okay, got it, I realised I had a few linked blocks that were Rhino 8 files, and it wouldn’t let me open it at all for that reason.

Thanks

That makes sense.
I’m glad you’re sorted.

Hi Justin -

If you could take a moment to write up those issues in a new thread, that would give us a chance to fix them!
Thanks,

I’ll do that when I have a minute, Wim.

Cheers

Is there a workaround for doing a SaveAs? the file i have was created in rhino8 but my trial period has ran out and i currently only have access to Rhino7.

Cheers

Hi -

There’s a stand-alone 3dm file version converter available from this thread:
