Hi,
I’m trying to extrude a sdf(+) curve as in the tutorial: Subd Gumball Party Tricks, but I can’t get it to work.
I 've rebuild the curve to a subd friendly(+) curve but can’t do the trick Kyle is doing.

Hi Martin - please post a link to the tutorial and show the approximate time of the part to look for.
-Pascal
pay attention to the order while pressing the keys
start dragging the curve and then hold Ctrl. if you make it the other way around you will only move the gumball. I mean if you first hold Ctrl and then drag the gumball you are only changing the position of the gumball.
Hi Diego,
I did, but then it flips back into a circle again.
Hi Martin - to make the elliptical extrusion:
Start dragging one of the scale handles.
Hold down Ctrl.
Let go of the mouse button
Let go of Ctrl.
?
-Pascal
Didn’t work Pascal.
Here some info about my system:
Ah - sorry- on Mac it is Cmd and not Ctrl.
-Pascal
Works,
Thanks a ton
Hi. I am trying exaclty this, on a Mac but I cannot for my life get it to work. I’ve tried the combinations suggested without luck. And any other possible combination as well… What am i doing wrong?
To make the elliptical extrusion:
Start dragging one of the scale handles.
Hold down Ctrl.
Let go of the mouse button
Let go of Ctrl. (But with Cmd as its on a Mac)
Thank you
Anya
Hi Anya - Cmd has to go down after you start dragging the scale handle… and come up after you stop dragging and mouse-up…?
-Pascal
Hi Pascal, Thank you for your quick response. Yes I am doing that but all that happens is i get an oval shape or round if I press shift. I press Cmd after dragging and up after the mouse. Still no extrusion?
When I do that it tells me to press control, but that does not help either. I’ve tried both. Can it be a setting somewhere I have missed?
Thank you
Anya
Hi Anya - just to be clear - when you extrude a planar curve with the scale handles it’s to get a ribbon like thing not an extrusion with height - for that use the normal extrusion handles in the middle of the axes.
-Pascal
Hi Pascal.
Not sure what you mean with the ribbon type thing?
I am trying it in in SubD friendly mode but as I understand it doesn’t have to be subD friendly to be able to do this? Is that correct?
I recorded a little video of me doing this. Maybe you can figure out what I’m doing wrong, it is driving me nuts
Thank you again,
Hoping one day I get my head around this

OK- I see - this is in fact a bug that was recently fixed in Rhino - RH-66037 Gumball: Failed to extrude a planar closed curve inward or outward
It’s not you…it’s Rhino. I do not know in what release this bug was introduced but it is fixed in SR-13, just the other day - this build is not publically available yet.
-Pascal
Oh Thank you. that is a releif, its not me, Yay. ;).
How or when can I fix and update Rhino?
