Cannot change object's layer in Properties side panel

cannot alter selected object’s layer in Properties panel
all dropdown menus grayed out

workaround is to select objects, right click on intended layer in Layers Panel, ‘move objects to this layer’

Hello - is this true of any object, even in a clean, new file?

Pascal,

I just closed WIP and reopened, starting a new file. Made two quick lines, tried highlighting each separately, all options in Properties pane grayed out.

Please see attached image. Let me know if you want me to try anything specific.

Hi Chip - OK, I see this now, - when I tried curves, it started, now anything does it - thanks.
