Can Rhino add a pipe command solid pipe to an stl mesh?

Hi,
V8
If I open a figure (.stl) that is already used for 3D printing (passes all checks, been used for 5 yrs now)
as an .stl file into V8.
Can a solid thin pipe made with pipe command, be edited down the front of it from its helmet on its head and be joined into the mesh, at the head end, and perhaps best to allow it to touch the body in a couple of places on the way down, (for extra strength and minimal breakage) , end dangling in space , and be suitable for 3D printing again ?

How is such a pipe after being made with pipe command, added to the mesh ?

I also need to add a plug on the end so assume do all the Rhino object modelling stuff before adding it back to the mesh.

Cheers

make a pipe, then run the mesh command on the result.

mesh booleans or shrinkwrap to combine everything

Hi,
made a pipe,
(need to suss how to make a guideline come out perp from a mesh then droop down.)

I run the mesh command, unsure what those options do, and what is best for a figure 57mm tall requiring the best detail printing, (have found a printer I am happy with after 7 years search) 16K xy and 20microns Z.
But dont want to mess it all up by choosing wrong values for the item being attached to the scan.
Is there a way of establishing what values the existing fine detail scan has, then use same values in the mesh options box in the meshing of the Rhino made object ?

what are the rules here.

Should I use the settings that you suggested for the SR6 calibration tile ?

I went with default just as a mesaabout, then mesh boolean union, and bingo attached.
need to get more realistic lighting, all very silvery and flat.

max distance edge to surface is the mesh tolerance. set this to match your file tolerance.

max edge length is the actual length in file units for the polygons that make up the mesh. smaller units= small triangles= more triangles= finer details.

zero out all the other values.

Hi,

Thanks,

Where can I look to find this value of ‘file tolerance’ ?

How best can I establish what the actual length of a polygon is, and by that I presume one is looking for the smallest Polygon, so no good zooming in and measuring one ! ?

Steve

tools>options>units

Thanks, tolerance now known about.

and what of
