Can I export individual solid and surface objects as a group in FBX?

I want to export from Rhino to FBX to import into Unreal Engine. I’ve modeled wood, separating the top and side surfaces into individual surfaces. When I import into Unreal, each surface is imported separately. How can I group multiple surfaces into a single object, similar to joining objects in Blender with Ctrl+J, before exporting?

There is no grouping feature for export to FBX but the object’s layers are exported, and, perhaps, that can be used to group objects that need to stay together?

In a quick test, that doesn’t seem to be necessary and the texture of joined surfaces is saved to FBX.
