Can I assign a tool to a specific layer?

In my ACLT, I can assign a tool to a specific layer. e.g.When I click the Hatch tool all objects created default to my Hatch layer. It doesn’t matter what layer is current, at the time I selected the tool. Anyway to do something similar in Rhino?

Thanks for the info. SetDimensionLayer will be useful, but I sometimes want dimensions on other layers. However, I always want my hatches on the hatch layer. I wonder if SetHatchLayer could also be added at some point?
