Calculating Pen View Unusually Slow

Hi everybody,

I’ve been having this problem for awhile now and can’t seem to resolve it. I’ll go to generate a pen view, and it takes FOREVER if it works at all. Usually the models aren’t very complex and generate on a different machine in seconds. The command line freezes at “Computing technical drawing data…”

My drivers are up to date, any thoughts on what causes this?

My system settings are as follows:

Can you share a file that exhibits this slowness please?
The smaller the better.

I can’t tell if it’s a file based problem or maybe plug-in related.

Thanks

I’ve attached a 3DM of a simple bar stool that refuses to generate a Pen view on my machine.

Stool_Pen.3dm (2.7 MB)

Maybe 0.5 seconds here to go into Pen display.
Your file settings seem fine so I’m guessing it’s related to your plug-ins.

In Rhino Options > Plug-ins, change the list filter at the top to Plug-ins that do not ship with Rhino.
Disable all of them.
Close and restart Rhino.
Open the Stool file and go into Pen display mode.
Assuming it is fast, re-enable the plug-ins, one by one, restart, and see which one is causing the problems.

Any luck?

Turned off all plug-ins not shipped with Rhino, same issue. I’m currently waiting for it to generate, it’s been 5 minutes so far.

Is it any better if you disconnect the second monitor and restart Windows?
I’m wondering if both monitors are using the same resolution and scaling settings…

Since you have an Nvidia gpu, I’m wondering why you have the AMD denoiser installed. This isn’t involved in this issue since you’re not raytracing.

I tried with a single monitor, same issue. The AMD denoiser was a relic from when this machine had an AMD card, maybe there’s a driver conflict happening somewhere? I really appreciate all your help!

I’ve also assumed that your Pen mode is set to default settings. If not try resetting to defaults.

Does Technical display mode have the same issues?

Have you tried this in the V8 WIP?

Same issue with Technical Display Mode. I’m installing the WIP right now and will let you know if I have the same problem.

If you run SystemInfo again, you aren’t getting any of those extra plug-ins to show up. Is that correct?

I just want to eliminate any possibility that these plug-ins are involved.

So I tried using the Rhino 8 WIP and uninstalled all previous Rhino installations. This seemed to do the trick and now the views are generating in seconds instead of minutes. There must’ve been some sort of conflict.
