BUG: SubD losing mapping in last Rhino 8.10 update

Dear Helper,

SInce the last update from Rhino 8.8.24170.13001 to Rhino 8.10.24228.13001 SubD loses all UV mapping positions. (not the texture just the positions)
To check my Subd were ok, I opened old Subd Rhino 7 files in Rhino 7 + 8.8, where they were fine, opening the same old files in Rhino 8.10 + Rhino (9) WIP gave the same problem.

I think @Jussi_Aaltonen is aware of it, but I’ll make sure he sees this anyway.

Hi @juan.rodriguez

Could you upload

  1. sample model that shows this bug
  2. output of _SystemInfo command in your Rhino 8.10

either directly to this thread or using our file upload tool?

Hi @juan.rodriguez

I’m waiting for a sample model and SystemInfo command output.

Thanks for the model @juan.rodriguez

How did you create those SubD objects?

Dear Jussi,

Starting from a mesh like the mesh version next to the subd is a part of the original.

We used Subd to move the arms, fingers etc,… because a easy and really good result.

They were bought at renderpeople, as rigged 4.0 unreal files.

Exported as fbx file from unreal en imported like that in the past in Rhino 7 or 8 till rhino 8.10.

The jpg is simply assigned and the mapping is recognized without special treatment.

Just take the jpg and drop / we do that through Vray for rhino.

We use them since 2022 and this and other human figures are embedded in many of our industrial scenes.

The strange thing is that exciting good rhino files with this subd in are still opening ok in 7 and 8 till 8.10, and not in 8.11+ or rhino wip 9

Here is the official website where we bought the different human figures.

Thanks!

We already know what change broke this but your workflow helps understanding how we should fix it. Those SubD objects in the file define their texture mapping in an obscure way and it has sort of worked by accident so far.

I’m assuming you use ToSubD command in Rhino to convert meshes to a SubDs, is that correct?

Hey Jussi,

Yes, indeed we used ToSubD in Rhino, if possible it would be very nice to bring that option back and to be able to use all our old scenes again. How long do you think you will need to bring this option back again? In meanwhile we will be working on a non updated Rhino 8 version.

Your old models should have correct texture appearance in Rhino 8.14 again. Sorry for this inconvenience.

Hey Brian and Jussi,

We just tested 8.14 and it works perfect like before, many thanks! But maybe a small “extra” request, could you make it possible to mirror these SubD’s while still keeping the textures? This was a small existing problem before, but maybe fixed with partially the same code solution.
You can test it with the files I sent you previously, just by mirroring the SubD’s.

@andy @Jussi_Aaltonen what do you think?

Thanks @juan.rodriguez for pointing out these issues.

I’ve logged a bug for the mirror issue: RH-85330 Mirror: destroys SubD face texture points

RH-85330 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 17

Dear Brian,

Many thanks for the follow up!

We will test it asap.
