Bug: Revolve with history in latest RC

Hi McNeel
The attached file misbehaves if the line is moved, point edited or rebuild - the axis goes haywire; see video for details.

revolve bug.3dm (5.3 MB)

EDIT: Really strange - just re-did the line and now it works. No imported geometry, no weird commands - just a line. Strange - will see if I can repeat!

EDIT to the edit: OK, so I think I found the bug. If I make a line (or arc, it seems) and pre-select it, then run revolve the axis acts funny. If I make the line, run revolve and then select the curve, all is good!

Regards, Jakob

OK, so no more edits to the original post… Just had it happen again, this time with a non-pre-selected (!) curve, so… I guess it just happens randomly.

Hi Jakob - did you set the axis by snapping to some geometry ?

-Pascal

Hi @pascal
No snapping involved. Axis was set by entering 0 as start point and shift+dragging up to set the axis in either front or right viewport.
HTH, Jakob

OK - thanks - so far I cannot make this happen…

Hi @pascal
Reviving this thread, as I’m seeing this again, and it’s driving me nuts! In the attached file (saved small) the axis is messed up if I scale the curve. I really wish I could repeat this consistently, but I can’t. Nobody else seeing this at all? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: As you can see in the vid, the problem goes away if I redo the revolve, but eventually it pops up again with another curve - so weird!

Hi Normand - Ouch, yes, I see this with your file - Mikko will be able figure it out - my wild guess is that it is related to the new ability to snap to geometry for the axis and have that as part of History.
Did you set the axis by typing coordinates (it looks like) and not by snapping or smart track?

Hi @pascal
Kindda happy that you’re seeing the same thing - was beginning to question my sanity! Axis is set by typing 0 (for world 0,0,0) and then shift (to activate ortho)+move cursor upwards and LMB click to set the second point.
-Jakob

Hello Normand,
I was able to replicate the problem. When creating the axis in the front viewport, I started with 0 enter then pulled down to create the second point, in my Osnap I had the end and project checked on so as my curser went by the bottom end of the revolve curve snapped to it projected to the construction plane creating a perfect revolve, however associating the bottom point of the revolve axis to the revolve curve creating your situation.

Hi IM having the same problem with revolve. I’m getting really frustrated as it only shows up when in need to adjust my profile by that time I’ve placed items on the surface and need to start from scratch as my surface has gone.

Has anyone found a solution I’m revolving _Revolve 0,0,0 0,1,0 0 FullCircle
