In UVEditor with an object selected, select “Save to Bitmap” under “Viewport” - opens a standard save window - provide a filename and hit “save” – and voila!: the file is not created or saved (no error message or other failure alert).
Sys Info attached.

@Jussi_Aaltonen
I first thought:
Same in here, no file created.
This is not exactly true.
When I save the file like this:
And then do the same again, there is no file to see…
…but a file was saved.
The bug is, that that file was not saved as a JPG file, instead as a PNG .
The saved file is Killme.jpg.png.
Because the filter in the Save dialog is JPG, you can’t see there is a file.
@Jonathan_Jaech
Thanks for reporting.
3 separate bugs where found that can cause your issue:
RH-98635 UV editor Save to Bitmap fails with spaces
RH-98636 UV editor Save to Bitmap doubles file extensions
RH-98637 UV editor Save to Bitmap cannot write TGA
These will be fixed in Rhino 9 BETA soonish.
You can work around the bug for now by following these rules:
Do not use spaces in the folder path or filename
Do not type the file extension after the filename, select it from the dropdown instead
Do not use TGA

In my example the real path is T:\Desktop\TEST, there are no spaces.
I didn’t enter the extension.
The filetype wasn’t changed by me, JPG was set when the dialog came up.
See screenshot above.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Are you on Rhino 8.34?
I’ve tested with a German Rhino but the Save As dialog still appears as English because I’m running an English Windows. It’s possible that there’s a localization problem. Can you take a screen shot of the open file type selection dropdown?

Perhaps the lengthy file format description isn’t necessary?
This is the dialog for Save Rendering in V9 beta:
This is in old PhotoShop:
Don’t know about the descriptions but the order is the same as in English version.
Can you repeat the bug if you save to an empty folder?
The cause appears to be the persistent Transparent background setting in ViewCaptureToFile . It restricts the format to png and tiff.
Can you verify this by toggling that setting in ViewCaptureToFile?

That’s an explanation for ViewCaptureToFile .
Raises the question, why not use the very same dialog?
Instead of this one:
BTW, JPG as a term seems enough to me, not Joined Photographic Experts blabla .
Verified.
You are right.
Yes, that is a good question. That definitely needs to be re-considered.
Charles:
Verified.
You are right.
Already 4 bugs found so far on this simple feature. I wonder how they managed to hide this long.
