Bug Report - Rhino immediately closed after placing a JPG file as Picture

Rhino keeps closing after a JPG file is dragged to viewport, then access Object Properties > Material.

Any one experiencing the same?

Another finding: when a PNG file is inserted instead of JPG, Rhino doesn’t crash.

I’ll try to look for the cause while keep on recreating the situation.

Always crashes with the same jpeg, or happens with any jpeg file?

Hi  tried several different JPG files yet the crash persists. But PNG files seem to be okay. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Rhino few times but it doesn’t seem to fix it. Those uninstallation steps made me realized I lost RhinoMCP plugin and can not get it anymore from PackageManager as it’s available no more

Tried the RhinoAIMCP already, but it generates more loops in LM Studio with QWEN 3.6 35B.

I may try to reinstall graphics driver which I haven’t tried it yet as all seems to be okay.

No crashes here with your procedure using a couple of different jpegs - I’m on SR 33 release candidate.

Thanks Helvetosaur.

I swapped between Nvidia and AMD GPU to be used in viewport, but both generate same crash.

Any activities/crash log that is automatically generated that I could read?

Does it still crash if you open Rhino in safe mode?

Hi Jeremy. On Safe Mode, Rhino only displays wireframe inside Perspective viewport. So, no issue.

Therefore, I suspect that it has some relation with the display or, even Windows. I’m still tracking whether any Windows update is conflicting with it.

One blessing in disguise is, that I can now set RhinoAIMCP and make it running as I was only able to setup RhinoMCP :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: May be, the saying “you can’t have it all” is true  One old thing dropped, few more new things pop up.

However, I’m still very curious on how this could happen.

After dozens or probably hundreds of clicks, enable/disable, checked/unchecked, install/uninstall, and so on, the bug suddenly disappeared completely  I couldn’t remember what settings I changed/put back. LOL :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

However, not all mystery is meant to be solved. Let it just be mystery  At least, Rhino is working normally now, with a new RhinoAIMCP plugins running, replacing RhinoMCP.

Thanks @Helvetosaur and @jeremy5. Sometimes when there’s a problem, all you need is just knowing that some people are around, which should be enough to boost your mood and be confident to solve it.

Update: Sitting down in chill with no pressure for nearly 10 hours while trying to solve the JPG picture issue, brought me further to be able to bring back again RhinoMCP which I thought I lost it already. So, I will be playing with both RhinoMCP and RhinoAIMCP.
