Bug: Receives Shadow Stays Uneffected in Raytraced

i have a simple setup up with one light source. disabling the receives shadow for the surface in the red layer shows no effect. after additionally unchecking the cast shadows on the cube (or in my initial case a very similar object) sent Rhino into outer space (not repeatable but i have sent a report) i copied all relevant objects including light into a new file. i had a spot light initially but trying out a point light shows the same issue.

the problem shows in the viewport as well as in the external render window. rendered display mode works, so the problem is only in raytraced.

receives shadow fail.3dm (3.2 MB) rhino info.txt (3.6 KB)

Right now I can’t check your file, but you should know that cast and receive shadows functionality does not take skylighting shadows into account.

ok, but thats not a problem i really just need it to work for regular lights. talking about it, do you have any plans integrating compositing options like seen by camera, seen by reflection etc.?

Cast and receive options should work. I will investigate when I can.

No plans currently for compositing or light path control.

thanks nathan

what does light path control mean? researching on the web yields for me inconclusive results and does not seem related to compositing, or does it mean that compositing is a bit more involving than simply switching off the calculation in the camera while leaving it in the reflection etc? do light beams have to be physically calculated for such matters in cycles?

compositing is a really important essential part for representation, for such tasks i would have to switch to an external render packages since i could never do without compositing. rendering twice in rhino to compose it manually is not going to happen… can you write up a wish? i have seen people asking for it already, i probably would make sense to think about it more intensive?

Light path and compositing control are already on the wishlist. Just not planned.
