(Bug) really bad Meshing / Display

_box
_explode
_pointsOn
_rotate the top face CV’s
_join

default mesh-setting does not show the correct geometry
as soon as i set custom mesh and set maximum distance or maximum edge length i get the nice artwork as above.

Version 8 (8.20.25133.14002, 2025-05-13)

not sure if the issue is caused by the latest update.

twistedBoxBadMesh.3dm (2.8 MB)

systemInfo_tom_P_25-05-14.txt (12.8 KB)

thanks for a fix

kind regards -tom

I cannot reproduce here.
Does it get corrected if you _ClearAllMeshes and go back to Shaded view?

@Gijs
I have the same probem. I reported it here (sorry for duplicity): BUG: Render mesh broken after updating to 8.20

No, nothing changed…

_ClearAllMeshes
nothing changes…

i believe so, i linked to a related topic above

okay, let me check again in the exact same build

sorry for starting a new topic - looks like the same issue is discussed in topic above.
can you merge the topics ?

maybe it is a intel vs apple silicon problem

me: intel

I cannot reproduce this in 8.20.25133.14002 either

@Tom_P @morris does this work correctly in latest SR?

did not have any problems in the last version - but i might have skipped one update in the last 2 week as i was super busy.

@wim

looks like the latest stuff is the bad one…
opend the file from above and _clearAllMeshes

… the old versions do the job, just tested the first and the last you sent:

Version 8 (8.19.25098.10002, 2025-04-08)

Version 8 (8.19.25127.17002, 2025-05-07)

Version 8 (8.20.25133.14002, 2025-05-13)

EDIT / UPDATE:

Version 8 (8.19.25132.01002, 2025-05-12)

I had something like this and Grok recommended several things. First thing I tried was RefreshShade, and it worked.

thanks @Tom_P for testing

RH-87449 Render mesh broke for some mac users in 8.20

@Tom_P I missed that you did not show the test in 8.19 SR, does it work there as well?

Version 8 (8.19.25127.17002, 2025-05-07) works - see above.

wim sent me

and i checkt the first and the last, and the installed latest.
did not test inbetween.

added you to the PM.

*liebe Grüsse - as we say…

Hey @Tom_P and @morris

This would really help us out in isolating when this started happening…since it doesn’t seem to be happening on all systems, it’s difficult for us to reproduce it in-house.

We believe we may have isolated a specific change that’s causing this, but again, it’s hard to know for sure without being able to reproduce the problem.

So if you’re willing… Please download and install the following V8 interim releases (don’t overwrite your current V8, just drag the installer onto your desktop instead, and run it from there…once you’ve verified whether things work or not, just drag the desktop version into the trash, and repeat the process for the second installer).

  1. https://files.mcneel.com/dujour/dmg/rhino_8.20.25123.18002.dmg
  2. https://files.mcneel.com/dujour/dmg/rhino_8.20.25124.02002.dmg

The theory here is that the change went into the second linked version (251254)…so if things work for you with the first version (25123) but not the second, then it’s another good indication we’re on the right track.

Thanks again for the feedback and patience on this matter.
-Jeff

Version 8 (8.20.25123.18002, 2025-05-03)

default mesh

some fancy settings custom render mesh

Version 8 (8.20.25124.02002, 2025-05-04)

@jeff - both versions you posted above show the problem.

:frowning:

Ok… thanks for all the work and investigation… I need to start looking further back in SR20 chain then.

I really appreciate this.

Thanks,
-Jeff

I guess we’ll go one build at a time…

When you get another chance, please see if this one contains the problem or not…
