in v7 make a cube, call MeshOutline - works.
in v8 and v9 not anymore.
i remember starting to have some issue with it some time ago but now it does not create anything at all anymore, it just quits silently with nothing done.

I found that it works fine in Rhino 8.19 on my MBP 2019.
I confirm it doesn’t work anymore : Version 8 SR20

Thankfully, I can still use the Grasshopper “Mesh Shadow” component.
I never made a meshoutline in Rhino before, but did as you said.

in that case it indeed stopped working in 8.20 and the recent v9

@Gijs could you maybe have a look if you manage to produce it with the recent release? there are 3 people in here experiencing this issue
yes, definitely busted in 8.20
RH-87452 MeshOutline is broken in 8.20
