I quitted and restarted Rhino, and the problem disappeared.
There really is a LOT of random stuff going on in v8.

I see it has been fixed. Do you think this fix could please make it in the next release candidate of V8. It is really a frustrating bug. Still broken as of Version (8.1.23318.13002, 2023-11-14) . Do I have to wait until 8.2?
If you change your update schedule to release candidates, you should be able to use it now. If that’s no option, as a workaround, deselecting objects in the other documents should make the gumball appear in the doc you are working in.
Whether a fix goes into the current point cycle or not is up to the developer to decide. In this case @Joshua_Kennedy
I could port it back but the fix required a fair bit of changes and I’d prefer a bit more testing before it’s released. Especially since there’s such a short window before Service Release 1. There was already one crash I fixed as a result of the changes.
