(bug) bad Meshing

i get an unexpected meshing result (Rhino 8, Mac)

bad result

unexpected result - Minimum edge to surface distance is ignored ( not reached )

fix

can be fixed by setting
minimum initial grid quads to 16

workaround

(generally before creating the geometry) CreaseSplitting → Enable
(“repair” after creating the geometry) DivideAlongCreases

file

badMeshing.3dm (3.0 MB)

kind regards - tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for sending the file and for having narrowed it down: you’ve found the “minimum initial grid quads” setting works for this, and this means that this is now much easier to examine in general.

I filed this as RH-98402 so it gets tracked:

In the meantime, you found two workarounds:

  • minimum initial grid quads to 16 (or a higher value).
  • Or enable CreaseSplitting

Thanks again for now,
Giulio

this is an old problem in the mesher, it doesn’t know how to deal with those tangent transitions

Another way to fix the meshing is

DivideAlongCreases SplitAtTangents=No SplitAtKinks=Yes

…

thanks for having a look. cheers - tom
