Broken features could be classed as "Alpha" like with other developers

Case in point: D5 render labels their new path tracer as “Alpha”. It actually works pretty good. And they haven’t even labelled it as “Beta”… but rather “Alpha”.

Many features in Rhino are completely and totally broken. But some of the R8 WIP features that worked well didn’t make it into the release. ‘Flair’ for example: It worked pretty good. But it was deemed “not ready”? Yet so much stuff that appears to have zero testing found its way in.

If everything that was broken (or iffy) was labelled “Alpha” then ordinary users could steer clear of it without wasting their time. More ambitious users could test it out and help work out the kinks. Maybe that would get more people into it instead of just relying in WIP for beta testing.

I don’t think labelling ‘FilletSrf’ and definitely ‘FilletEdge’ as Alpha will go down all that well at McNeel.

The funny thing is that I’m one of the few people that doesn’t mind how these perform. Not to minimize other people’s concerns as these are probably some of the most popular critiques.

I guess it just highlights the challenge of developing a CAD program intended for such a diverse user base.
