Is it possible to do easily as in wireframe mode?
I’m not seeing this issue so much here. I noticed that you get a loop selection on the right which means there was a double click on that edge. It looks like your cursor is also further from the edge on the left side too in shaded mode but I can’t tell exactly when you’re running Bridge. Would going into your display options and thickening edges by a point or two help?

But I found that if the model is positioned so that the edge is on the top of the backface, then it makes difficult to select
If the backface are not visible or are absent, then the selection is so easy as in wireframe mode.
Not yet tested but I think this applies to other commands related to the edges selection.
@BrianJ Is it possible to improve a bit? to make the same distance on both sides of the edges (distance between the backfaces side and the front side of surface) to trigger the selection
