BrailleGen for Rhino

BrailleGen for Rhino | Food4Rhino

Hi all!

Blind Design Workshop has created a Rhino version of BrailleGen, based on the OpenSCAD tool created by Braille Forward. This tool can be used to create 3D braille objects directly within Rhino for 3D printing, fabrication, or other projects.

Other features:

  • Creates editable braille dots and backing plates
  • Creates an optional closed, validated print-ready mesh
  • Supports contracted and uncontracted braille using Liblouis
  • Includes Unified English Braille and other Liblouis translation tables
  • Adjustable characters per line, dot height, plate height, line spacing, and margins
  • Slab, segmented-plate, and dots-only modes
  • Automatically converts millimetres into the active Rhino document units
  • Uses white object colors for visibility against darkmode Rhino backgrounds

(Quick note: for best quality Braille, print vertically (characters go up and down) rather than flat on the 3D printer bed.)

This was our first quick release. Stay tuned for a larger package of non-visual 3D modeling tools for Rhino coming soon.

Happy Brailling,

Paul
