I’m generally very impressed with the new features and workflow improvements in V8!
But as always, some things can also go slightlybackwards.
So i think the selections and booleans worked a bit better in V7, workflow-wise.
In the attached video, using V8, you can hopefully see what i mean.
In R7 i could:
Window- select and extract the protrusion, getting all surfaces.
Boolean union these with the part directly, even without joining them.
I’m hoping for some fine tuning of this in V8 so it is like V7 again in these regards.
I’ve usually have a backface color on, and use booleans to get the trimming and joining done.
Now it’s more clicking than before.
Also the ExtractSrf + windowselect doesn’t always select all of the objects any more.
Sorry about the fast video, i turned the speed up to get the filesize less than 20 Mb
Rhino 8 doesn’t handle situations where naked edges exactly touch a polysurface (and don’t go bombastically through) as well as before.
Regarding selecting I’ve also noticed that it’s also harder now to select occluded objects now, especially in shaded but also ghosted.
I really liked the ability to select completely invisible objects that I know where are. It’s faster without needing to swap display modes.
