Bongo 3.0 WIP 19 Now Available

well, mabye so but it’s a major leap forward from Bongo 1.0

I upgraded right away, but haven’t messed with it yet. :joy: :sob: been too busy, but definitely day dream about using it soon lol

it does look good from looking at the samples in this post but after then seeing nothing in four years is worrying…

For me to upgrade from bongo1 it is quite a few hundred £££’s and to justify that based on my first experiance I would need to do trials and see proof as I was not impressed with version 1…

Is there any news on the ongoing development of Bongo at all?

The Bongo 3 WIP has been in active development for the last 1,5 years.
At this very moment however, there’s no developer working on developing Bongo.

Hi Marika

Thank you for your reply.

I have not found information on it’s development that is newer than around 4 to 5 years ago…

You’ve said there’s active development in the last 1.5 years but where do I find the latest info to see the development over the last year and a half?

The last WIP announcements have lists of what has changed.

Hi Marika

Thank you for your reply.
I didn’t realise that there were new posts on the development, from what i found i could only see posts from around 4 to 5 years ago.

when i first looked at bongo it was to enable me to design mechanisms in rhino and simulate / test them but I felt let down with bongo 1 and haven’t really ever used it, when bongo 2 came out it still didn’t serve the purpose and i went onto purchasing and using SpaceClaim with momentum..

When i found bongo 3 has gravity, better joints etc… I got excited but i am unable to trial or use bongo3 wip as i need bongo 2….
and from what i see this will cost me £595 to upgrade my single user licence of bongo 1.

My fear is that with the under development of the product I worry that i may be wasting money to trial and potential use bongo 3 wip.

Especially when you say there is not active developer working on it.. :frowning:

You’re right. The development is terribly frustrating. Then there’s a glimmer of hope that it will work out when a new developer announces their arrival, and then this information comes out that no one is working on it.

Hi Peter

It is frustrating, as I would like to see if Bongo 3’s physics sandbox is any good, but apart from some old stuff on the forum I can’t find any real good information on it.

even on YouTube if I do a search for bongo2 or bongo3wip, the few bits that come up are over 5 years old?

This could be a very good Tool for mechanism design, but my experience of Bongo 1, which I purchased and found not to be great, and the information online about V2 and V3wip, which is many years old, and the fact that it is not actively being developed, is unfortunate.

i can’t justify spending nearly £600 on upgrading my version 1 to version 2 so i can then try version 3 wip o find out it does not work well…..

Perhaps if it is not being developed it should be offered as a free download, it might then get some interest and lots of videos of it in use, which will then push longer-term sales?
Or even better perhaps it should be built into Rhino as standard for free like grasshopper was / is……

Since there are some issues that tend to be left unresolved on the forum, we need to come up with a webinar for the development team of zero members, where they would present a road map of what will actually happen in the future.
