Block text and leaders with adjustable wrapping

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find an efficient way to create a reusable annotation note in Rhino 8 that functions similarly to a dynamic block in AutoCAD.

My goal is to have a standard note that I can place multiple times, but for each instance, I need to be able to independently:

  • Move the leader’s arrow to point to different objects.

  • Adjust the width of the text block to change the line wrapping and fit it into tight spaces.

I’ve tried making a block containing the leader and text, but that locks everything together. Is there a recommended method to do this?

have you explored using a Group too ?

Use the user text and in your leader , choose text function and link it to your user text. edit it through user text tab text access

How so? Lets say I want to create a leader on one sheet and then re-use the same text but change the leader arrow direction and the text justification on another layout? From my experience, blocking locks the text/arrow and you cant change it without exploding and undoing the block function. How would your block/group resolve this?

Block is only for the text, the group a leader and the block together, this way you can enter the group, move the leader and have many group as you want with different leader poisitions, the if you want to change the text just update the block and all your groups will be updated.

Stay organised, and put your text blocks somewhere in your drawing to see an updated them easily.

My option using textuser could be more “tricky” at the beginning, but depending of the way you organise them, they all will be store at the same place, usertexts… but you can also use the other “places” like layout usertext, or blockusertexts….

In my workflow I prefer that way to avoid to store many blocks in my files, only for geometry.

And if you dig into new block of V8 you can show from a block the blockusertexts…very very useful
