I have several files that are linked into one main file.
Every time when I open the main file I get this dialog for each file. (“Do this for all block name conflicts.” work per imported file. So if I have 10 files with conflicting blocks I get the dialog 10 times.)
I can get rid of the block of course.
But I would rather use “Keep current block” as a default setting for the main file.
Is there a solution for this problem? Or can we have some kind of permanent setting, so that this is not so clumsy ?
Running the Block Manager command again… after the insert command… should open up an entire list of the all the blocks you have in the file… and maybe they can be group selected for a batch level deletion… using 'shift" + ‘click’ to build your selection set.
I have a block which is very simple, like a circle with a crosshair and a dot in the middle. I use it for georeferencing files that are very far from Rhino’s origo.
When I link the far away geometry file I use the block to check that all the files line up nicely.
Thus all the far away files have this block “zero point marker”.
When I import them there is a naming conflict. To me it does not matter if the block is from the “importing file (sister file)” or from the daughter files, the symbol is the same.
What is annoying is that for each imported file that Rhino reads it ask the same question about that block.
I would like the answer to be for all imported files, not for each one separately. Also the best would be if the dialog answer would be permanent in that file. I mean, for example, what ever file is imported, Rhino does not care about block conflicts, it just imports.
I have 10 geo-referenced files, thus I need to click the dialog ten times when opening that file.
what is the source / offspring of the block you use in all documents ?
if i copy paste the block-definition i could not reproduce the dialog.
I needed a new block created differently with different geometry…using the same name.
my guess - it is possible to get a block with the same name and same geometry that is spread over multiple documents - but does not cause a conflict. It s a question of know / find the correct workflow.
possible workflows might be:
copy paste an initial block
use the same rhino template for all documents
reference the block to an external file
workaround
another workaround might be to script the import - this should suppress the dialog -_import Browse
then you can select -_SelBlockInstanceNamed
and youse an asterisks as placeholder YourBlockName*
to select
YourBlockName
YourBlockName 02
YourBlockName 03
YourBlockName xx
then replace the block
-_ ReplaceBlock …-> Blockname …-> YourBlockName
then _purge
BlockDefinitions
this should be quite straight forward to "macro"rize it:
import with no dialog, select block by instance name with asterisks, replace block, purge blocks.
