Best Sites for Rhino 3D Assets

New to Rhino. What are the best places to upload 3D Assets like furniture, appliances, lights?

Do you mean upload or download? I kind of hope you meant upload because we desperately need native Rhino assets (nice clean ones that is). Food4Rhino is Rhino’s actual companion website for uploads and although you can upload models (I do) it’s mostly used for other things.

As for downloading I’ve been down this road and it ate up a lot of time. In hindsight, the best thing I could have done is choose a 3D render engine that has the stuff I need. Many don’t especially for the North American market. But for the quickest possible access (if you’re rendering stuff) it’s definitely a big consideration.

Thanks for the response Keith

This is only for upload. What about 3dSky, Turbo Squid or Savanna 3D. I am mostly uploading furniture, appliances and lights.

Other than Food4Rhino I don’t have lots of experience uploading assets. I do use a site called Gumroad which allows, but dissuades free downloads (more with larger files). The good thing about Food4Rhino and Gumroad is that you can present your collection the way you want it.

I don’t know much specifically about 3dSky or Turbo Squid they both look like good sites. One thing to keep in mind is that there is so much content online that it’s hard for people to even find your stuff if it’s free; if you’re selling it the market is ultra competitive.

Rhino models are actually quite rare because 1) Not a lot of demand for Rhino specific models and 2) You can usually work with different formats anyways. Creators have to make their models compatible with the widest audience possible hence why you see lots of stuff for 3DS Max, Blender, etc… If you want your models used outside Rhino you’ll have to make sure the texture mapping holds up in other programs as that tends to be one of the most time consuming tasks whenever you import content.

I’ve posted a few times about this and there’s lots in the pipeline - that being a purpose-built 3D library that also includes a 3D viewer specifically for Rhino models - One of the more challenging aspects about using a site with a viewer (like Sketchfab) is the texture mapping. Rhino’s texture mapping sometimes survives the trip to/from other programs sometimes not. It would be better to have something tailor made for Rhino but as of now I don’t think anything is 100% finished yet (I might be wrong and that would be nice if I am).

Thanks very much Keith
