Beginners question: trim specific shape from solid circle

Hi,

In my model I have created a circle with grashopper. with the use of “dive curve” I’ve created a point from where I want to build a new figure that I would to “trim” from the circle. got two questions:

  • the point “9” I have created does not look like a valid startpoint to build something new. I’ve tried to move along the curve but getting a “data conversion” mistake. what am I missing?

  • want to trim a part has the same radius as the circle, not sure how to begin with that and what should be the best way to accomplish that. any hint for me?

eventually it should look like this:

Took another approach to solve this problem.

I no longer use “divide curve” to create points on the circle to build upon, but using “horizontal frames” along the circle. I also discovered a benefit that frames follow the coordinates of the place on the circle rather than having the same X,Y when using “divide curve”

I also settled with a polygon as a trimming object rather than a part of the circle as shown in the above picture.

Where I am much further with solving the model I still have an issue on the trim part. when trimming the polygon from the extruded circle I end with an open volume.

Who helps me fix that?

Hi Ferdi -

I’d just use the Solid Difference component here.

Hi Wim,

Indeed the Solid Difference made the difference, Thanks!
