BEAM 1.15: now on macOS
Hello everyone,
We’ve just released BEAM 1.15, and for the first time it runs on macOS ![]()
This update brings the BEAM Rhino plugin and the Grasshopper components to Rhino 8 for Mac, with the full IFC workflow: import and export, IFC2x3 and IFC4, on Apple Silicon and Intel.
IFC on the Mac:
• Import IFC2x3 and IFC4 files straight into Rhino, or link them as a Worksession reference
• Choose what comes in: filter by category, include or skip spaces, merge coplanar faces, place the file on a CPlane of your choice
• Geometry and BIM data both arrive, organised in the BEAM panel
• Export IFC2x3 or IFC4 from Rhino, with IFC types and predefined types per object, property sets, and Uniclass or your own classification file
• Split walls, floors and ceilings on export
• Project info, address and file header settings, and IFC types mapping, all in the panel
The rest of BEAM on the Mac:
• Levels, families, categories and parameters, as on Windows
• Grasshopper components, including IFC export from Grasshopper
• Export a .beam file and hand it to a colleague on Revit; the Windows side of the workflow is unchanged
The Revit add-in and the Dynamo nodes stay on Windows, since that is where Revit lives. A .beam file made on either platform opens on the other.
Also new since 1.14, on both platforms:
• Split walls, floors and ceilings on IFC export
• Colour by level and select by level in the Levels dialog
• Family rename and select by family
• Configurable curve and NURBS import
Install on macOS
Open the Rhino Package Manager and search for MKSBEAM. That installs the Rhino plugin and the Grasshopper components together. On Windows, keep using the installer from the download page.
