Backup / Restore own programming

Hello @ all

first of all I send you greetings.
I’m a German IT-administrator with no CAD experience :sunglasses:, but my job is to give our users functioonal tools and technical support.

Now, one user lost all his programmed scripts out of grasshopper.

What has pahhened: After installation of two programs (Revit 2016 and Hummingbird) and a general cleanup of the computer (Windows tool “Disk Cleanup” and delete profiles of other users) the internally generated scriptes from Grasshoppers disappered.
Starting of Grasshoppers the license agreement has been requested to accept, as it is common during the first access.
Some add-ons (V-Ray for Rhino) are no longer available.

  • It is not yet clear, so this damage has occurred!

We get some data back by a recovery tool (eg \% userdata% \ AppData \ Roaming \ Grasshoppers; Folder Libraries, User Objects). I fear, that these are not the lost data.

To be prepared for future cases, I ask for some information

  • The possibility of backup / restore own scripts.
  • Locations, particularly its own settings, your own scripts
  • Backup / Restore My Settings
  • If necessary, Known issues when you install certain tools

regards

Well, as far as I know, Grasshopper “scripts” - we call them “definitions” actually - are just files like any other. They have a .gh or .ghx extension (maybe you can search for them). So they can be stored anywhere that the user has permissions to write to on the computer or a network. Therefore backing up/saving/restoring should be done as for any other of the user’s personal documents.

As for “known issues” - I don’t know, but s— happens…

Thanks,

So i know, which files I have to search. I will test this with the user to collect the folders.
First of all; I have installed veeam and make a Client backup once a week.
