ATR Floatplane

I wanted to contribute to the aircraft-design gallery.

Image (cutout) from Planète Aéro magazine taken at the 2025 Paris Air Show (Le Bourget).

I handled the 3D design and created the manufacturing files for this scale model. Although I didn’t get the chance to handle the physical production myself, Atelier Pras took care of the fabrication.

Since I couldn’t be physically present at the workshop, I have to admit that Rhino’s color preview engine (Shaded mode) produces very clean images instantly. Whenever I was asked for information, it was trivial to take a quick capture and send it over immediately
(I’m eagerly awaiting the annotation feature in Rhino 9)

These models are designed to look beautiful, but what remains unseen is the underlying complexity, the internal structure, the assemblies, and the hidden details. Once assembled and finished, the model looks simple. However, supporting the two floats with small rods that intertwine with the tripod was a real puzzle. This is where Rhino’s instant preview proved to be invaluable.

Here is a look at the “guts” of a professional-grade model - the Lego manual

Super impressive project, @kitjmv! I’m always equally impressed and surprised with the wide variety of projects people here get done :exploding_head: This is really cool!

Thanks Jakob

Yes, I’m also impressed by the work presented in this gallery, and my goal would be to have one project per category
