Art-Deco inspired Wrist Watch Concept - Rhino+Grasshopper

This set of Art Deco-inspired concept watches is based on a parametric 3D model developed Grasshopper using different modeling techniques - a combination of SubDs and Nurbs with the addition of some custom tools.

The Grasshopper definition includes almost all the different components: the case, the full dial design, the bracelet and details such as the crown, hands, case back with engravings and crystal.

Different 3D patterns are used for the surfacing of the dial, for the bracelet - which is based on this parametric design wall pattern - and for the case.

The only hand-modeled parts are the bracelet end pieces and the clasp: they were sculpted using SubDs, and all the subsequent boolean and filleting operations were automated in Grasshopper.

The Grasshopper definition generates the different parts based on a few input curves and surfaces and some numeric variables, and this approach enables to create design iterations and variants relatively quickly.

All the different parts were converted into meshes in Grasshopper, and then exported to Blender. The images were rendered in Blender 3.1 with Cycles.

Excellent design!

Thank you!

Hello, nice design, can I ask you?, how can I have that nice Rhino viewport bluish finish? it’s custom? new user here.

Edited:
Oh…no…Alias?..lol

Hi Adan,

Thank you for the feedback!

Yes, the viewport uses a custom blue-warm grey gradient similar to Alias.

Here is the image (used as a material environment map) and a screenshot of the main settings.

Thank you Marcos
