Are you a student? please read this!

Here at McNeel we absolutely love our student users, we love helping you learn and grow with Rhino and love seeing the amazing work you do-

However we see several recurring problems that students face and I’d like to address a few of them below-

  1. You are using a 90 day trial for a class and the trial expires before you class ends. The trial for Rhino has a counter in the top left most corner of the program. DO NOT IGNORE IT. when the counter gets to zero days your trial is expired, and you cannot save. Any unsaved work at this point is lost unless you buy a student license. You cannot game the system, by changing your computers date, making a new email, moving to a new computer, or calling us and making up elaborate stories about how your trial expired incorrectly. (we have heard some doozies!)
  • If you ignored the timer, Rhino expired and you have unsaved work on your most important project, you CAN buy a license, change your license from an expired trial to your new purchased license and regain the ability to save.
  • you may want to call us at tech for help here as doing it wrong will result in losing your file.
  1. You have a Rhino account set up with your .edu email address, you graduate and your university shuts off your email, and now you can’t get into your rhino account or launch rhino. This one is super common, and can be easily avoided simply by adding a 2nd email that you can access to your account before you leave school. Sign into your account at accounts.rhino3d.com, then go to the email section, and add a 2nd email. Ideally your permanent email should be the primary and your edu (or temp email) should be the 2nd.

  2. You got an assignment, you have no idea how to model it . We can help with broken Rhino’s in all forms, but we can’t do your homework for you. The best way to get help for “how do I” type questions is by coming here to the forum, Search for your problem, it’s likely been asked before- if not, posting your problem and asking from help from our community is the way to go. We have all been new to Rhino at one point, and you will very likely get an answer from one of our amazing users.

  3. I downloaded Rhino and I have no idea what my license key is…

Hope this helps answer some common questions, happy modeling!
