Are these repositories correct?

Hi,

First time using Rhino; no idea if I’m posting the comment in the right place.

I want to know if these are the correct repositories I should have on my system, as I haven’t seen any updates for several days, and I don’t see any mention of Rhino in the commands for system identification, please be patient… Thanks.

Hi -

I’m not sure what you are trying to do. While that doesn’t stop people from trying, running Rhino on Linux is not supported…
-wim

Hello, I don’t understand your message, if you could, please, explain better … I have downloaded Rhino from its original site,

–or are you saying that I have posted in the wrong place?.

Thanks

That is not an official McNeel site. The official McNeel site is rhino3d.com. Rhino running on Linux is not officially supported - there are a few people who have tried to make it work and one or two seem to have succeeded after a fair amount of work.

Did you buy your Rhino license from McNeel or an official reseller?

I haven’t bought any License, nor any ideas on the subject, I only saw in Distrowatch a reference to a Rhino-Linux which they give an information about it being a rolling release system, etc…

and I downloaded and installed it on my PC, but after what I explained at the beginning I see that there are no references in those commands to any Rhino-Linux, nor updates, only the kernel changed…
Anyway that’s why I come to this forum but from what seems to me … your astonishment, I think I have made some big mistake – if it hasn’t been Distrowatch who has done it by giving an incorrect information.

I have installed and fully configured “this system”, or whatever it is now, a Debian12?, did I waste my time with all this…?.
Could you give me your final comment on all this misunderstanding?

Thank you very much and best regards.

Rhino is not free software. If you find something other than the legal 90-day evaluation version that offers or installs Rhino for free, it will be a stolen copy.

Rhino versions are available for Windows or MacOS. The people who are attempting to run Rhino on Linux are doing it via a Windows emulator as far as I know. But you would still need a license.

Rhino Linux is a Linux distro that has nothing to do with Rhino 3D the CAD software.

That is very serious, I must understand that Distrowatch has posted on its website an information that is …?

The version to download “Rhino”, or wherever … on this page:

is it not the same as the one listed on Distrowatch?

What do I have installed then…?

–To tell the truth I do not understand anything, anyway thanks for your comments.

To get info on the Rhino Linux distribution check their discord and matrix servers - links are on their github page: Rhino Linux · GitHub

Rhino Linux = A Linux based operating system (Ubuntu, to be specific). Check the github project page for links to their discord and matrix communities.

Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino 3D) = A CAD software, discourse.mcneel.com is the support forum for that.

I must be very slow to understand, but all this leads me to the same place:

What you’ve found isn’t Rhino 3d, it’s a Linux distro called Rhino. You’re in the wrong support group or you found the wrong Rhino.

Perhaps.

Amplifying what Nathan said:

Rhino 3D is a commercial CAD application which has a 90 day free evaluation version but otherwise must be purchased. This forum is the support forum for that product.
It has nothing to do with the software you reference, which apparently is a free version of Linux. Most of the participants in this forum know little to nothing about any form of the Linux operating system since Rhino 3D runs only on Windows or MacOS.

There is some confusion on this forum because some Rhino 3D purchasers (very few) have tried to get it running on a computer with a Linux OS and that is what Helvetosaur thought you were talking about.

So what it comes down to is that if you are interested in a CAD program then Rhino 3D may be what you need but you need to purchase a license and run it on a Windows or Mac machine. The website you initially referenced has nothing to do with CAD.

If what you are really interested in is a version of Linux to run as the operating system on your computer then you apparently were mostly on the right track initially but got onto this forum by mistake.

Good Luck!

Well that’s a relief, better to be in the wrong forum than on the wrong distro,

– if any of you here knows … could please tell me which is the Rhino-Linux (free) forum?, and again thank you very much for your patience,

Regards

Have you tried the “blog” and “wiki” tabs on the website you linked to? Also the readme?

that is why i’m here in this forum (?)

Please also learn to read. I told you that you can find links to the discord server and the matrix server for the Rhino Linux distro communities.
