I had to use Reddit to create a recent title because of its active character counter. With a 75 character limit, and no active counter, creating a title for this forum is unnecessarily difficult and inconvenient.
Also, why such a low character limit? I understand we don’t want titles to be essays but a little bit more wiggle room would be appreciated.
That limit was specifically adopted because of this reason. IMO it is possible to have a succinct title in less than 75 characters. Remember, people now frequently read this forum on mobile devices.
it can be challenging because having to cut it down and make a short title that actually conveys what the content is about is sometimes a bit tricky and costs a lot of time, plus having to battle with the amount of letters and rearrange change the words till it fits is not the best use of time.
i remember this has been discussed at least one more time before already, a character counter would indeed be great, but for this even the meta is not a good place since one would have to go and request at the source of the general discourse and not the mcneel discourse. i even registered there once but that has been years, who knows maybe the discourse would have this feature installed already but mcneel has not managed to implement it yet, in that case @stevebaer might be a good person to ask since he administered that at some point if i remember well
