Ambient Light setting in Rendering panel > Lighting

The Ambient Light in Rendering panel seems to have no effect on the scene display.
How is this one different from the one under Rendered display mode (that actually has the effect but is buried deep and not exposed in Display or Rendered panel).

I am confused.

Hi Jarek - it does seem to affect the rendering and rendered display here-
Render

Rendered viewport

Which one wins in the rendered display depends on the ‘Background’ setting - ‘Use render settings’ or ‘Use application settings’.

Hi Pascal,

Thanks, I see now that it works as you described.

Although it doesn’t make sense to have Ambient Light setting under and tied to a Background option.
Doesn’t it belong in Lighting? What is the benefit of having the same setting in two places fighting each other?
I think it would be cleaner if the Ambient Light in Render panel was just exposed setting from the Display Mode and always affecting the Rendered mode display.

Hi Jarek - yeah… I hear you… I had to dig around a little to see what was what. I’ll make a bug item to look at rationalizing all of this stuff…
