All my tool icons along top have gone

Hi
V5
I was turning off layer palette and saw I small group of icons in a box as I clicked X.
They must have been the tool icons along top row, why they did that I dont know.
The X was for them not the layer palette, done in a hurry, now stuck !
Now I have no tools at all, but cant see how to get them back.
Unable to work.

ai said type toolbarreset and restart.
so did that, got them back
BUT MISSING ALL MY CUSTOM BUTTONS NOW …OMG :rage: :scream:
was that the way or was there a better way of getting that toolbar and all my buttons back ?
Now what do I have to do ?
are my buttons and all this saved in a user prefs file or something ?
V5.
Steve

ToolbarReset sets your toolbar back to the Rhino default values so by running that you have removed your custom buttons. If you are going to run commands on the say-so of AI I’d strongly recommend you to check what the commands do in the Rhino help file before doing so. There are no guarantees that AI will give you a valid solution.

If you have a backup of your C:\Users\steve1\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\UI folder (replacing C:\Users\steve1 with whatever is appropriate for your pc) taken before you deleted your toolbars, you can restore *.rui to that location.

If you don’t have a backup you could check the recycle bin for rui files date-timed earlier than when you ran ToolbarReset.

NB. In the folder mentioned above, you may find a file default.rui.rui_bak. If that is larger than default.rui then it might contain all your buttons, so try this before going to your backups. Close Rhino. Rename default.rui to default.temp and rename default.rui.rui_bak to default.rui. Open Rhino and check. If ok, delete default.temp. If not ok, close Rhino and set the files back to their original names.

Hi, I will explore.
also I have Rhino 7 with my buttons, also Rhino 8, can I make use of that fact in any way ?
Steve

The Rhino 7 rui should be 1:1 compatible with Rhino 5
