Hi I am working on an object that is symmetrical using a flat plane and control points to manipulate a half of an intended shape. Once I have my shape, I use the mirror tool to complete the other half making a whole object. I use join naked edges but due to the points being out of line I can see a definite gap in my piece although it is joined.
Is there any way I can line up the points accurately the same way as i can line up surfaces? Or is there some other way of making my model that will allow me to make changes easily for analysis purposes?
Hi! You align points on certain axes with Transform -> Set XYZ coordinates (SetPt command). After you mirror object on perpendicular axis, the surfaces should join nicely. Don’t use “Join 2 naked edges” (JoinEdge) unless you know exactly the reason for doing this - use MatchSrf with “Average surfaces” checked in case of mirrored surfaces to get smooth transitions. You mirror surfaces, match them, then delete mirrored to work just on one part.
